Section 20.2: Visual Fields (Confrontation) Test

The Confrontation Test is a tool used to assess visual fields of each eye independent of the other. Normal visual fields extend to 180 degrees in the horizontal plane and 135 degrees in the vertical plane. The visual field of each eye is divided into four quadrants: superior nasal (above the horizon line on the nasal side), inferior nasal (below the horizon line on the nasal side), superior temporal (above the horizon line on the temporal side), and inferior temporal (below the horizon line on the temporal side). Confrontation testing may be performed statically (stationary) or kinetically (moving).

A brief description of the procedures for conducting the static Confrontation Test may be found by following this link. A brief description of the procedures for conducting the kinetic Confrontation Test may be found by following this link. A brief video of the Confrontation Test being administered may be found by following this link.
